The 27 laps race kicks off at Phillip Island with Iannone leading the race through turn 1 followed by Lorenzo, Marquez and rest of the racers. Soon Lorenzo overtakes Iannone at turn 8 and is now the race leader. In the second lap, however, Iannone gets back on and takes over the lead from Lorenzo with Lorenzo behind him, followed by Dani Pedrosa, Marc Marquez, Cal Crutchlow and Valentino Rossi. In the middle of lap 2, Iannone gets hit by a seagull (Yeah you heard it right, a SEAGULL that was sitting in the middle of the tracks), damaging the right side of his bike which was shown at the end of the race. Lorenzo took this as an advantage and then overtook Iannone to first place again. Again Iannone and Marquez overtake Lorenzo for first place. It was a brilliant first three laps of the race with so much drama and overtaking, especially between Lorenzo, Iannone and Marquez for the pole position.
Rossi meanwhile sets the fastest lap of the race and is now in fourth place, having overtaken Dani Pedrosa and Cal Crutchlow. Iannone further gets pushed back to 4th place and Marquez runs a bit wide, giving a chance for Rossi to make his move for the second place. Lorenzo by now had already created space from the rest of the riders with 20 laps to go. Nicky Hayden had to retire from the race due to some mechanical failure.
The Ducati continued to show it's incredible performance. The race was now stable with Lorenzo trying to get away from others, being hunt down by Marquez in second, followed by Rossi to make a move and Iannone to show what his Ducati can do. Dani Pedrosa lagged behind Iannone, fighting with Crutchlow and Maverick Vinales for fifth position. With 10 laps to go, Rossi gets overtaken by Iannone and, Marquez overtakes Lorenzo for the pole position. With 7 laps to go Iannone overtakes Lorenzo, only to be overtaken by Lorenzo soon. The next lap, Marquez gets pushed back to third place. Marquez soon gets back into second place, overtaking Iannone at the Siberia corner, thanks to Marquez's brilliant braking skills which gave him a chance to bounce back. Again Rossi makes a move overtaking Iannone but the horsepower of the Ducati is simply unmatchable, which lead Rossi to be pushed back to fourth place again.
The rest of the laps went on in a similar way with these three trying to overtake each other but ending up at the same spot. With half lap to go to finish off the race, Marquez overtakes Lorenzo at the bottom of Lukey Heights for first place and Iannone made sure that Rossi could not pass him. Marquez crosses the finishing line at first place, followed by Lorenzo, Iannone and Rossi. With this finish, Marquez not only gave his best performance of the season but also took home his 50th GP win.
Our Impression: This is one of the "BEST RACES" as we can say of this season with so much action, so much drama, show of power and trying to show each other's dominance in this race. But at the end of the day, Marquez took home his 50th grand prix victory and Rossi need not worry too much about Lorenzo, thanks to Marquez winning the race as it would cost Rossi a lot of points had it been Lorenzo who had won the race, but nevertheless the fight is still on and with just two races to go for the end of this season, let's find out who will be crowned the 2015 Moto GP World Champion.
