Movistar Yamaha rider Jorge Lorenzo hammered from start to finish at front in his 250th GP appearance and final race with Yamaha. Starting from Pole position, Lorenzo got off to a perfect start and lead the pack right from Turn 1 until the chequered flag. The 2016 World Champion Marc Marquez made the perfect tyre choice, helping him to cross the line in second position after a battle at the back. Italian rider Andrea Iannone surprised everyone with his pace despite rehabilitating from injury, as he battled with Valentino Rossi and ended up in front of "The Doctor" at P3. As the lights went off, Jorge Lorenzo got off to a great start leading the pack into Turn 1. Andrea Iannone, Maverick Viñales and Valentino Rossi got a good start as well and was battling at the front. Marc Marquez missed his launch off the line and fell back in traffic. As Lorenzo started to pull off at the front, the battle for P2 became fierce involving Iannone and Rossi while Viñales and Marquez joined the party soon. Rossi then picked up his pace and saw him in front of Iannone, 3 seconds off the pace from the race leader Jorge Lorenzo.

Andrea Iannone used the Ducati horsepower to the most in the straights and caught Rossi everytime at Turn 1, leading to a cat fight for a few laps. Andrea Dovizioso was seen leading the fight for P6 followed by the brothers Aleix Espargaro and Pol Espargaro. Meanwhile Marc Marquez got his hard front tyre in the maximum working temperature, and pushed to the maximum to pass Valentino Rossi and Andrea Iannone in an attempt to catch Lorenzo.

Riding at P6, Dovi began to drop towards the end of the race making way for Pol Espargaro to take the hole shot at the chequered flag. Towards the end of the race Andrea Iannone passed Valentino Rossi for one last time at Turn 12 and opened a gap, to take the Ducati home at P3. Meanwhile Cal Crutchlow suffered a crash from P9 and ended up on the gravel, yet securing his place for the Top satellite rider. Valentino Rossi and future teammate Maverick Viñales came home at P4 and P5. Pol Espargaro, Andrea Dovizioso and Aleix Espargaro crossed the line at P6, P7 and P8 respectively. Bradley Smith and Alvaro Bautista completed the top 10. Dani Pedrosa crashed out of the race, who was still recovering from the Collarbone injury succumbed at Japan. Redbull KTM Factory Racing team test rider Mika Kallio retired midway facing some sort of a technical problem, but the team gathered some important race data for the future.
