2017 Aragon GP Qualifying Report-
Maverick Viñales takes pole as Marquez crashes out

Maverick Viñales claimed the fifth pole position of this season in front of fellow Spaniard and factory Ducati rider Jorge Lorenzo. Valentino Rossi showed a spectacular performance by qualifying third on the grid, just after breaking his right leg 23 days back. Coming back after 2 surgeries and making a front row start is nothing less than incredible. Cal Crutchlow leads the Honda filled second row, followed by Repsol Honda riders Marc Marquez and Dani Pedrosa. Jorge Lorenzo, Johann Zarco, Jonas Folger and Danilo Petrucci were some of the big names who went into Q1. Surprisingly Lorenzo showed commendable pace right from FP4 to Q1 and easily qualified to Q2. Johann Zarco also rode a quick last lap to get into Q2 just after the chequered flag.

As the Q2 session started off, it were the Honda riders who showed quick pace remaining on the top. Meanwhile Maverick Viñales and Valentino Rossi found rhythm in the later part of the session, climbing into the top 6. Andrea Dovizioso also seemed to struggle on his factory Ducati, and ended up for a P7 start.

With around a minute and a half to go, it was unbelievable to see "The Doctor" to be on provisional pole with a broken right leg. That excitement diminished as Maverick Viñales and Jorge Lorenzo took the top 2 spots in succession. Marc Marquez was on a hot lap trying to get a fifth straight pole at Aragon, but crashed out on a fast left hander. In the end, Maverick Viñales took pole followed by Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi.

Cal Crutchlow ended as top satellite rider at P4, followed by Marquez and Pedrosa. Andrea Dovizioso starts from the front of the third row at P7. Aleix Espargaro was impressive throughout as he starts from P8 followed by Alvaro Bautista and Andrea Iannone. Johann Zarco, coming from Q1 ended the session at P11 followed by KTM Factory test rider Mika Kallio at P12.

*** Valentino Rossi getting back on the saddle

The round 14 of the MotoGP World Championship goes live from the MotorLand Aragon circuit at 5.30PM IST tomorrow. With Valentino Rossi showing great temperament after coming back from an injury and the other top riders getting into the mix, it is surely going to be one of the most important races as far as the Championship is concerned. Meanwhile stay tuned to BikesMedia for further updates on the 2017 MotoGP World Championship.
