Marc Marquez rode a rather perfect race to clinch his fifth victory of the season. Teammate Dani Pedrosa was back into action at the front finishing in second place. Factory Ducati rider Jorge Lorenzo took the second podium finish of this season, way in front of Championship contender and teammate Andrea Dovizioso. Valentino Rossi coming from a tiresome leg injury managed to finish the race in P5, marking a strong comeback.
As the lights went off at the MotorLand Aragon, Jorge Lorenzo from the middle of the front row got off to a really good start, getting the holeshot into turn 1. Valentino Rossi made a great start and continued the pace behind Lorenzo, while Maverick Viñales made a mistake and was seen behind the top 5. Viñales lead a train of riders behind including Pedrosa, Dovizioso, Crutchlow and Aleix Espargaro to name a few.
Valentino Rossi kept up his pace for more than half of the race until Marquez pounced inside him. With 14 laps to go Marquez tried passing both Rossi and Lorenzo, but failed as he went wide on turn 12. Meanwhile there was Dani Pedrosa behind making sheer progress passing Viñales, ready to attach Rossi.
Valentino Rossi slowly started to drop his pace and was passed by both Dani Pedrosa and Maverick Viñales. Cal Crutchlow had a bad day, as he crashed out behind. With only a few laps to go, Marc Marquez hammered down for Lorenzo to take the lead. Pedrosa also attacked Lorenzo for a P2 spot marking a strong comeback.
At the end Marc Marquez took his fifth victory of the season, with Dani Pedrosa and Jorge Lorenzo completing the podium. Maverick Viñales came home at P4 while Valentino Rossi crossed the chequered flag at P5. Aleix Espargaro rode an incredible race to bring his Aprilia into the top 6 position, also taking the top satellite rider spot. Andrea Dovizioso finished at P7, while Alvaro Bautista, Johann Zarco and Pol Espargaro finished the top 10. KTM Factory test rider Mika Kallio finished at P11, making some strong statement to the team.
The Championship leader Marc Marquez is 16 points clear of Andrea Dovizioso. Dani Pedrosa has climbed one spot, pushing Valentino Rossi down to 5th with 170 points. The paddock now moves to Motegi, Japan in three weeks times for the Asian flyers. With top 3 riders being so close in the points table, the Championship decider is expected to be at Valencia.
