Marc Marquez secures his seventh pole of the season at the Phillip Island circuit in the island of Australia, making it four in a row. Main title rival Andrea Dovizioso suffered with his Ducati GP17, as he starts way behind at P11. Maverick Viñales showed a good pace in the Q2 and starts from the middle of the first row. Johann Zarco was almost on pole moments before the end of Q2, but was overshadowed and starts from P3.
Valentino Rossi, Jorge Lorenzo, Danilo Petrucci and Bradley Smith all had to go through the Q1 session. Valentino Rossi was spot on and went on top in a few minutes, and was followed by Alex Rins and Tito Rabat. In the final lap before the end of the session, Bradley Smith came up with an incredible lap and was seen at P2. Both Valentino Rossi and Bradley Smith were through to Q2, while Jorge Lorenzo ended up at P6 and starts the race tomorrow from P16.
As the Q2 session went underway Marc Marquez went on top with a 1'29.314 followed by Maverick Viñales. Andrea Iannone came out of no where to make a 1'29.265, bettering Marquez to go on top. That didn't stick for a long time, as Marquez pulled back on top. Valentino Rossi seemed to suffer a bit, though he was constantly in the top 6. Crutchlow crashed out behind while on a hot lap. Meanwhile Johann Zarco went on top for a provisional pole which was decimated by Maverick Viñales in a couple of minutes.
With only less than a minute for the chequered flag Marc Marquez pulled a seamless 1'28.386 lap to grab the pole position at the Island. Maverick Viñales starts from the middle of the front row at P2 who is followed by another Yamaha rider Johann Zarco. Andrea Iannone will start the race at a well deserved P4, followed by Jack Miller and Pol Espargaro.
"The Doctor" Valentino Rossi starts from the front of the third row at P7 aiming for the second win of the season. The top 10 of the grid is completed by Aleix Espargaro, Bradley Smith and Cal Crutchlow. Championship rival Andrea Dovizioso will charge his fight, starting from P11 on the grid. He is followed by the Spaniard Dani Pedrosa, who seems to have grip issues. Jorge Lorenzo starts way behind at P16, and makes it interesting to see where he finishes in the race tomorrow.
The race goes live from the ever gorgeous Phillip Island circuit in Australia tomorrow at 10.30 AM IST. The race might even end up as a very important Championship decider as Marquez and Dovizioso are separated by a mere 16 points with only 3 races remaining.
