The 2017 Australian GP in Phillip Island is by far the best race of the season with countless overtaking maneuvers by the top riders at the front. Marc Marquez won the battle involving a train of riders, which seemed to be almost like a Moto3 race. The 'Veteran Master' Valentino Rossi made a great race even with a broken leg, as he finished in second place. The Flying Frenchman Johann Zarco made some strong moves while he finished at P3.
As the lights went out, it was Marc Marquez who got the holeshot into the first corner. Jack Miller starting from the middle of the second row got off to a great start as well and went on to pass Marquez to lead his home race and pull away. Maverick Viñales was seen at P3 followed by the Italian duo Valentino Rossi and Andrea Iannone. Johann Zarco also showed a great pace and followed the lead group. Meanwhile Dovizioso went wide at turn 1 and dropped back to P20, making life difficult for the Italian.
Soon the battle for the rostrum commenced between Marquez, Rossi, Viñales, Zarco and Iannone. The riders swapped positions almost on every other corners, neck to neck and side by side. Johann Zarco went on to pass Viñales around the outside on the high speed Doohan corner. Rossi and Marquez had tyre marks all over their leathers, thanks to a great show by the top riders.
The cat and mouse game was continuing amongst the riders, and with 7 odd laps to go Marc Marquez hammered down to pass Rossi and lead the race until the chequered flag. Valentino Rossi ran a safe line in the end, blocking both Zarco and Viñales to finish behind Marc. Maverick Viñales passed Zarco in the last lap and finished at P3. Johann Zarco finished his incredible ride at P4 as the top independent rider, and was followed by Cal Crutchlow and Andrea Iannone.
Home hero Jack Miller crossed the chequered flag at P7, in front of Alex Rins. Both Factory KTM riders finished inside the top 10, Pol Espargaro at P9 and Bradley Smith at P10 respectively. Dani Pedrosa helped his teammate by passing Dovi, as he finished at P12. Dovizioso suffered a lot and loses a lot of points for the championship as he ended up way behind at P13. Jorge Lorenzo didn't show any signs of improvement as he finished at P15.
The grid now moves to the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia for the penultimate round. The Malaysian GP might be one of the first chance for Marc Marquez to clinch his 4th MotoGP World Championship title. Marquez is now 33 points ahead of his closest rival Andrea Dovizioso with only 2 races to go. Let's wait to see what's on the menu for the fans and viewers at Sepang.
