2017 Austrian GP Qualifying Report-
Marquez demolishes the clear favourites for a Pole position

Repsol Honda rider Marc Marquez surprised everyone after grabbing a sensational pole position at the Redbull Ring, which is a Ducati friendly race track. Marquez took pole from the Ducati factory riders, while Andrea Dovizioso takes P2 followed by Jorge Lorenzo at P3. Maverick Viñales finished close behind and starts from the front of second row on the grid.

After the combined timings of free practice Dani Pedrosa, Danilo Peteucci and Jonas Folger were forced to go into Q1. Petrucci and Pedrosa came out as top two after the 15 minute Q1 session, potentially going into Q2. Both sessions remained dry today, as there were a bit of clouds seen.

As the Q2 session went underway, it was Valentino Rossi who went on top on his first outing lap. Marc Marquez and the Ducati riders dominated the entire session, while the factory Yamaha's weren't able to get to a stable top position. Maverick Viñales ended up the session at P4 for the race tomorrow. Danilo Petrucci riding a GP17 Ducati finished the Q2 at P5 followed by Monster Yamaha Tech3 rider Johann Zarco at P6. The veteran master Valentino Rossi starts from the front of third row at P7, expecting a good head start tomorrow. Dani Pedrosa starts at P8 coming from a tough Q1, followed by LCR Honda rider Cal Crutchlow at P9. The top 12 of the grid is completed by Andrea Iannone, Karel Abraham and Loris Baz. The NeroGiardini Motorrad Grand Prix von Österreich goes live from the Red Bull ring in Spielberg tomorrow. Though the forecast is listed as a dry and sunny day tomorrow, the riders might not race tomorrow if there is a rain. Most of the riders including the top ones have decided this after a Safety meeting yesterday. Let's hope the sun shines bright tomorrow, so that we'll see a fast and competitive race. MotoGP goes live tomorrow at 5.30PM IST from the Austrian track.
