Marc Marquez becomes the first ever rider to lap on 1'59's as he breaks his previous lap record to secure a pole position at the Silverstone circuit. This result marks his 4th consecutive pole position this season. Valentino Rossi wasn't far either as he ended the session very closely, just 0.084 seconds behind Marc at P2. Home hero and last year's pole setter Cal Crutchlow starts the race from P3. A few top riders like Dani Pedrosa, Andrea Iannone and Jonas Folger were into Q1 due to poor overall qualifying classification.
Pedrosa and Folger came out as the top 2 in Q1 and eventually went in for the second qualifying battle. As the Q2 went underway, it was Marc Marquez who got to the pace straight away and went to top the time sheets. Cal Crutchlow and the Yamaha boys were also in the top 5 during the first 5 minutes. Jorge Lorenzo and Andrea Dovizioso also found some pace to get into the mix.
Soon it became a 93 vs 93 battle as Marquez bettered his lap time of 2'00.106 to 1'59.941 on his second outing. Meanwhile Cal Crutchlow, Valentino Rossi had all red on their sector timers though both missed to go on top. At the end Valentino Rossi almost pulled a pole setting time of 2'00.025 just 8 tenths behind Marc. Crutchlow starts from P3 setting his best lap time of 2'00.106. Maverick ViƱales starts from the front of second row at P4. Jorge Lorenzo is the top Ducati at Silverstone starting at P5, followed by teammate Andrea Dovizioso and fellow Spaniard Dani Pedrosa.
The top 10 of the classification is completed by Johann Zarco, Aleix Espargaro and Jonas Folger. Factory KTM rider Pol Espargaro starts at P11 followed by the Brit Scott Redding. The race time for MotoGP has been changed since MotoGP and F1 timings clashed. The race goes live from the Silverstone circuit, UK at 8.00 PM IST tomorrow. Looking at the pace of top 5 in the Qualifying, it is sure going to be one of the tightest races of this season though Yamaha seems to have a slight advantage in this bumpy track. Meanwhile stay tuned to BikesMedia for further updates on the 2017 MotoGP World Championship.
