2017 British MotoGP Race Report-
Andrea Dovizioso takes fourth victory of the season

Andrea Dovizioso stuns the grid by taking the lead from Valentino Rossi with three laps to go, marking his fourth win of the season. Andrea Dovizioso now leads the Championship with most wins this season. Maverick Viñales finished in a close second place after making a tyre gamble. Valentino Rossi was at his best today, as he lead the race from start to 17 odd laps before giving the lead to Dovi. By far the British GP has been the best race of the season with many close fights between the top riders.

As the lights went off, Valentino Rossi got the holeshot into the first corner and disappeared at the front. Marc Marquez had a decent start as well and was closely followed by a pack including Viñales, Crutchlow, Dovizioso and Lorenzo. Valentino Rossi continued to lead the race with a comfortable gap of 7 to 8 tenths. The group behind slowly pulled away from Lorenzo, and swapped a few places. Meanwhile disaster struck Marc Marquez when he was behind Dovi, as he experienced an engine blow and was forced to retire.

With only a handful of laps remaining the lap times dropped to low 2'02's as the tyres started to wear. But Andrea Dovizioso held his nerves to attack at the end, as he came in prey of Valentino Rossi. The gap seemed to decrease and was seen visually, and with 3 laps to go Dovi made a clear pass on "The Doctor". Maverick Viñales wanted to take the gamble and attacked Rossi on the penultimate lap to take P2. In a matter of two laps, Rossi lost the lead and was seen at P3. Viñales tried catching Dovizioso on the last lap, but the Italian was in a league of his own and was untouchable. Dovi crossed the chequered flag first followed by Viñales, just 0.114 behind. Valentino Rossi finished the race at a contented P3. LCR Honda rider Cal Crutchlow lost his initial pace half way and finished 1.6 seconds behind the leader at P4 as the top satellite bike. Jorge Lorenzo finished the race under the top six yet again at P5. The flying Frenchman Johann Zarco came home at P6 followed by Dani Pedrosa and Scott Redding. Alex Rins finished at an impressive P9 marking his comeback after a big injury. The top 12 is completed by Alvaro Bautista, Pol Espargaro and Tito Rabat. Andrea Iannone continues to take out riders, as he swept out Danilo Petrucci with only 3 laps to go. Andrea Dovizioso now goes on top of the Championship standings, as the mechanical failure costed Marc a full 25 points. The top 4 of the standings is separated by just 26 points, before heading to Misano in the Province of Rimini.

The MotoGP grid now moves to Valentino Rossi's home track in Misano, Italy in two weeks time. With just five more races to go for the Championship decider at Valencia, each and every race will be important here after and the riders will be looking to grab every possible point.
