MotoGP 2016 Americas Race Report

Marc Marquez takes his 4th consecutive win at the Circuit of the Americas with a brilliant master class race. The race kicked off with Lorenzo leading the race in the first corner, but was immediately overtaken by Marc Marquez when he ran wide at the exit of the corner. The race then got exciting with Marquez taking the lead, followed by Dovizioso and Lorenzo fighting for the 2nd place with Rossi right behind Lorenzo, waiting to make his move. At the second lap, Loris Baz crashed at turn 1 but soon got back onto his bike. At the third lap, it was Valentino Rossi who crashed at turn 2 as the front end gave way mid-corner, thus ending the race for Rossi. The race continued with Marquez slowly running away from the other riders with Dovizioso behind him. It was not too long until Lorenzo overtakes Dovizioso to take 2nd place and Dovizioso now took 3rd place with Dani Pedrosa closing in. Dovizioso and Lorenzo kept fighting for the 2nd place, but it was Lorenzo who took lead over the two, but unfortunately at the start of 7th lap, Pedrosa had a jiggle with his front end at turn 1 which ended up in him losing control over his bike and crashing right into Dovizioso's rear, taking both out.

After the crash, Pedrosa immediately rushed to Dovizioso, apologized to him and got back onto his bike. With Pedrosa pushed to the last position and Dovizioso out, Iannone took a comfortable 3rd position. Soon Cal Crutchlow crashed at turn 11, immediately Bradley Smith also crashes at the same corner, missing Crutchlow. Both of them get back on. With 10 laps to go, Dani Pedrosa gets back to the pit lane since his bike was too damaged for him to continue. Dani Pedrosa then walks up to the box of Dovizioso and apologises to Dovizioso, explaining what really happened (A HUGE RESPECT TO DANI PEDROSA FOR SHOWING SUCH A SPORTSMANSHIP). Meanwhile the race continued with Marc Marquez creating space between himself and Lorenzo of over 4 seconds. The race continued with pretty much no changes at all, Marc Marquez putting his best, lap after lap, a few seconds behind rode Lorenzo, followed few seconds by Iannone and few seconds behind by Vinales and Espargaro. The race remained the same until the end with Marc Marquez taking his 4th consecutive win at the Circuit of the Americas, followed by Jorge Lorenzo and Andrea Iannone who not only finished his first race of the season but also his first podium of the season. Overall, it was a master class win by Marc Marquez.

MotoGP World Standings:

1. Marc Marquez - 66
2. Jorge Lorenzo - 45
3. Valentino Rossi - 33
4. Pol Espargaro - 28
