If you were among the fans of the Kinetic 2 stroke scoots back in the day, the recent news about Kinetic entering into the biking foray with a joint venture with MV Agusta to launch their line of superbikes in India would certainly have brought a 70mm smile to your face. If not the news about Kinetic, surely the Agusta coming to India soon is better news than many others. The Indian biking scene has developed leaps and bounds over the past couple of years. The growth is tremendous and absolutely promising to bring in many others international brands to the Indian shores and we can see the beginning of it with most of the big names making an entry eventually. Benelli came with DSK and so did Hyosung, KTM and Kawasaki came with Bajaj. So not only is it a good thing for the Indian biking scene but even the Indian economy is getting a boost due to this foreign investment into Indian companies.
DSK and Bajaj have surely hit a jackpot with their joint ventures and even Hero is on the way of making huge progress with the EBR buyout. One has nothing but a reason to rejoice over the foreseeable future of India’s biking scenario. And then there are also the superbikes from Honda and Ducati’s official entry into India as well.
But what makes the MV Agusta entry into India so special is because of the joint venture with Kinetic Motors, breathing a fresh life into a company which was pretty much, well, dead!
We all can remember the glorious days of the Kinetic Honda joint venture in 1984 when a number of 2 stroke 98cc scooters had entered the market. Even in those days the Kinetic scooters consisted of electric start and CVT transmission. It was the first and only scooter with such technology. Later on when the JV with Honda fell through, Kinetic kept making some pretty decent scooters until Honda stole the show with the Activa and all hell broke loose.
Later Mahindra came to the scene and bought out Kinetic to establish itself in the market and hence resulted in the eventual death of the brand Kinetic in the Indian market for quite some time until now. With the introduction of MV Agusta, Kinetic now has the chance of redemption to get back some of its lost glory. It will take some time to get back to the way it was back in the 1980s, but it is a start and that is always more important.
Today the Kinetic support staff is undergoing training for providing after sales service for the MV Agusta bikes and also Kinetic is responsible for setting up all the MV Agusta showrooms all across the country. Well, to sum it up, we are absolutely excited to see how it all pans out for MV Agusta and Kinetic Motors. We are getting our popcorn ready. We just hope it all works out for Kinetic Motors and they get back into the scene with full force.
