Volta Zap, India’s First Cross Over E-Bike: Overview

Volta Motors has come up with country’s first indigenously developed cross over Electric bike- Volta ZAP. The bike is featured with lightweight Lithium battery for easy charging and better efficiency. The company claims that they have done the research and learnt from the failures of their competitors, hence have come up with a modern day E-bike which can withstand with the hardships of Indian turf and traffic in particular. Design & Features:

The Volta ZAP looks essentially a bicycle, comes equipped with electric motor along with conventional pedals. The design and development of Volta ZAP has been done exclusively in India by the dedicated team of designers and engineers at Volta Motors at their Chennai based facility.

The ZAP is featured with newly designed Box shaped or perimeter frame which not only gives the aesthetic looks to the bike but also proves functional when it comes to the stability of the bike and placement of battery in particular. The sleek Lithium ion battery which weighs only 3kg tucks perfectly in the frame and adds both to the bike’s center of gravity and aesthetics. The battery is detachable and one can easily remove it and take it back to the home or carry it along while parking the bike in the parking lot (a very thoughtful feature though).

The Volta ZAP also comes equipped with front telescopic shock absorbers for better ride and comfort, however, had it been featured with rear shock absorber also, it would have been proved as complete package. There is a provision of front disc brake for better braking but again it is only provided at the front wheel of the bike.

There is a digital instrument console present on board for all sorts of information, LED headlight and tail light are also powered by the DC current drawn from the lithium battery. The battery can also be utilized as power bank for Smartphones, Laptops and other gadgets. One can also integrate one’s smartphone with the Volta ZAP. Performance & Efficiency:

The Volta ZAP is a dual ride commuter, which means one can use the electric motor powered by the lithium battery or can also utilize the pedals to give the extra power or simply to extend the range of the battery. The battery of ZAP gets fully charged in 2 ½ Hrs time and can last for full 60 km without peddling or one can extend this range further by using pedals. There is a 6-speed gear present on board which helps the rider to achieve full three cycles of wheel in just one rotation of pedal.

Since the Volta ZAP is an electric bike, it is featured with a motor and a battery to power the motor. The Volta Motors has used a powerful Hub Motor to get the bike rolling with the help of battery. The expected life of the battery is around five years and it also comes with manufacturer’s warranty, during warranty period if any fault comes in the battery the company will replace the battery. After designated warranty period the customer can also come to the authorized service center to get the battery repaired.

Most of the components used on the Volta ZAP are common with bicycle; therefore repairing won’t be a tough task. However, company is going to establish a profound service network across the nation. Volta Motor has not disclosed the pricing of the product and for that one has to wait till the official launch happens. However, the company has already started taking bookings through their official website, where you can book your ride without paying any booking amount. Yes, you’ve read it right!! No booking charges, only those who have booked the ZAP will be invited to take test rides in their respective cities when the official launch of the product takes place.

We are waiting for our test unit to get it reviewed for you and yes we are equally excited as you. Getting an electric bike for review purpose will be an exciting experience for team BikesIndia as well, stay tuned as we will bring you our Test Ride review of Volta ZAP only on BikesIndia.
