Harley Davidson Unveils It's First Ever Electric Bike- Livewire

  • Jun 24, 2014
  • |   Comments
Harley Davidson unveiled its first ever electric motorcycle by the name - Livewire in New York City. The Project name of manufacturing the prototype of this electric motorcycle itself is called the "Livewire", Harley Davidson has taken a very bold step by diverting its energy and competence towards the electric bikes manufacturing as they are already established players in the motorcycle industry throughout the World and known for their v-twin petrol engine cruiser type bikes. However the project livewire is at its prototype level and Harley Davidson is getting the feedback of the actual users by conducting the tours and other activities.

** Living Upto It's Name- The Livewire **

Harley Davidson has used three-phase induction motor in Livewire churning out 74 Bhp of power and 70.46 Nm of torque, which is a bit on lower side and can be termed as under powered motor but then the bike has a USP of going 0-60 miles (which is around 96 Kms) per hour in about 4 seconds, which is considered to be quick for an electric bike. The Livewire has top speed of 92 miles (that comes around 148 Kms) per hour, which is again impressive with the kind of acceleration Livewire generates.

** As "Green" As The Environment **

According to the report published in dailymail.co.uk many people who have test ridden the Livewire were disappointed with the silent character of the bike, this could be the effect of the image of Harley Davidson motorcycles with loud exhaust sound, which is almost completely missing in the Livewire. However the bike does make jet like sound due to meshing of gears while accelerating. As per the Harley Davidson spokesperson it is still not decided when will be the production of bike start and whether the bike will ever be mass produced or not. As Harley Davidson is considering the developing countries like ours as their future prospects there is a good chance that if Harley ever produces the Livewire on mass scale they may bring the bike in India.
