Jorge Lorenzo had a blistering start off the front row of the grid, getting into the lead at turn one itself. His unique and smooth riding style did let him hold station in the front, though Marquez put on the pressure all the time. He stands just NINE points behind the championship leader, Valentino Rossi.

Though the winner was decided in the penultimate lap of the race, the battle for third place went on till the last lap of the race. Dani Pedrosa and Valentino Rossi fought hard for the final step of the podium, with Rossi winning the dogfight. The 36 year old Italian had a tough time battling out the Ducatis of Andrea Iannone and Danilo Petrucci, and the Tech3 Duo of Bradley Smith and Pol Espargaro. Rossi did cut a massive 1.6 second gap between him and Pedrosa, the latter fought hard till turn 2 of the last lap.
