Iannone at one point led the race before being overtaken by the trio, then had a heated up battle for third place with championship leader Valentino Rossi. The desmosedici's Grunt meant Iannone just had to blitz past Rossi on the Gardner straight to gain a place, rather than risking a move up into turn 1. His move at Lukey heights was the move of the race, as he overtook Marquez and Rossi at a time to take second. He eventually finished third behind Marquez and Lorenzo.
Jorge Lorenzo led by almost a second and a half, before Marquez cut the gap to him and dragged Rossi along with him. He had to contend with the rear wheel of the Repsol Honda of Marquez, before he got back in front of him. He eventually finished second to Marquez and ahead of Iannone.
Valentino Rossi, who started from seventh of the grid had no issues surpassing Maverick Vinales (Team Suzuki Ecstar) going into turn 1, but had a hard time passing the Honda men Cal Crutchlow (LCR Honda) and Dani Pedrosa. He was engaged in a fierce fight for the podium places and remained in podium contention for the complete race before bowing out to Iannone's Desmosedici on the final lap.
There was more drama when the Ducati killed a seagull coming down Lukey heights, resulting in a Hole in the Desmosedici and a hole for Lorenzo to pass through to take the lead. Lorenzo's second and Rossi's fourth meant the former pulled back seven points from Rossi's advantage, the 18 point advantage shrinking to just 11.
The paddock flies westwards to Malaysia, for the Shell advance Malaysian GP in a week's time. Will Rossi claim a win and increases his chances of winning the championship at Valencia? or Lorenzo continues his form to clinch his third title? tune in next week to know!
