MotoGP Round 16 Qualifying: Marquez Conquers Pole Position Again!

Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda) clinches pole position at the Pramac Australian GP, while Andrea Iannone and Jorge Lorenzo lock the front row. Marc Marquez bounced back at Phillip Island after a disappointing weekend at Motegi, where he raced with a broken bone in his left hand. Marquez ended Friday's practice sessions on top, from title contender Jorge Lorenzo and posed a serious threat to the pole today. His flying lap of 1:28.364 set him on top of the time-sheets in Q2.

Andrea Iannone (Factory Ducati) had a good weekend after his first DNF in almost an year at Motegi. Iannone's 1:28.680 (+0.316) earned him a valuable place on the front row of the grid. The Italian looks on to clinch another Podium finish in tomorrow's race.

Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) almost got on to the middle of the front row, with exactly the same timing as Andrea Iannone's. The Spaniard, who trails Valentino Rossi by 18 points in the championship has got a golden opportunity to finish ahead of him and reduce the disadvantage.

Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda), fresh from his 50th win at Motegi sets himself on fourth, on the top of the second row. He will be Joined by Brit Cal Crutchlow (LCR Honda) and the rookie Maverick Vinales (Team Suzuki Ecstar) on the second row of the grid.

Championship Leader Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) focused on race setup in all the practice sessions, lapping consistently in the low and mid 1:29's which will be the race pace. His consistency and craftiness aided by a good start from the third row might fetch him victory at the Australian GP. He's joined by the Espargaro brothers (Pol-Monster Yamaha Tech3 and Aleix- Team Suzuki Ecstar) on the third row.

Tune in to Ten Sports tomorrow at 10:00 IST (GMT-11) for an exciting and exhilarating Race which might decide the way the championship might end. Do share the article with the hashtag #RossivsLorenzo. Enjoy the weekend.
