2016 MotoGP Round 6: Lorenzo wins a nail-biting thriller

Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) wins an enthralling win at the Italian Grand Prix, in a battle that ended up as the drag to the finish line.

Jorge's brilliant launch from the second row pushed him into the lead at the first corner, passing teammate and bitter rival Valentino Rossi at San Donato. He was shadowed and attacked by Rossi until his YZR-M1's engine blew up on lap 8, emitting a plume of smoke which overwhelmed the yellow flares in the grandstands.

Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda) was left out by the two Yamaha's in the initial stages. But Rossi's retirement put the young spaniard back in contention for the victory as he shadowed Lorenzo throughout the race and attacked him on the penultimate lap of the race. The duo exchanged their lead multiple times and Marquez was beaten by the superior acceleration of the Yamaha, losing out by just 0.019 seconds.

The battle for third was equally exciting, as Andrea Dovizioso's mistake and Andrea Iannone's late charge put the outgoing Ducati rider on another Podium Finish on home soil. Iannone was further attacked by Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda), missing the podium by just a tenth of a second on his 250th Grand Prix Appearance. Pedrosa started seventh on the grid and mounted a late charge on the Ducati's, benefiting from Dovizioso's mistake at San Donato (Turn 1).

Maverick Vinales (Team Suzuki Ecstar) recovered from a bad start which pushed him way outside the top ten to finish sixth and the top Suzuki. Fresh from his maiden Podium at the French GP, he mounted a late charge on the satellite bikes, covering the lost ground in a more effective manner.
