There was a time when the market was filled with 2-strokes (i.e., sales). Those light weight machines with extreme power to weight ratios, mind blowing performance and a sound that would blow your ears off. Yes those days were the days of life, though even today we can see them, but not as much as it was before. Soon the manufacturing of 2 stroke engines were banned, mainly because they contributed a lot to air pollution and were not complaint with the legislation around the world. So now what if there's a change and that these machines can be re-introduced in the market? How cool and excited will you be? Well it might happen, provided the new 2-stroke engines contribute less to air pollution. Here's some good news, Honda went a step ahead and has filed patent for all new 2-stroke engine. The new 2-stroke engine will have clean burning of fuel, fuel-injection and will be a SCREAMER. The patents that have been published shows the front and side views of the all new 2-stroke engine.
Take a closer look at the fig.1, the numbers 70, 71 and 74 shows that it is a fuel injection system. A fuel injection and yes things are about to change and the change in a good way. The plus point of having the fuel injector is that the fuel sprayed by the fuel injector is accurate and timed perfectly so as to make a clean and efficient burning of the fuel, which translates to the emissions being very low. The fuel will also be used as a cooling inside the cylinder to further increase the engine efficiency and in return we have a neat and clean engine, which has perfect fueling, less emissions and also the one that has a good efficiency.
This technology is relatively new and is by far the most advanced technology used on a 2-stroke engine, it is way way better as compared to the previous 2-stroke engines. If this goes on to be a success, then we can expect to see a modern, light-weight and powerful 2-stroke screamer that will complaint with the norms and at the same time will be one of the most fun loving bikes to ride on. So now how many would like to see the NSR500 or similar to that as street legal?Source: morebikes.co.uk
