In a race which could be the last Saturday race in the history of Grand Prix racing, Valentino Rossi won at Assen. In a battle which went all the way down the wire, Marc Marquez went in too hot at the last chicane to overtake Rossi, causing him to cut the corner and take victory. 
This is Valentino Rossi's 111th Grand Prix victory- the second highest after the great Giacomo Agostini with 122 victories overall. This win increases Rossi's lead in the world championship to Ten points, with Jorge Lorenzo finishing in third place. 
 
                                
                            
                            
                            
                            
                            
Valentino had a dominant weekend here, decimating the pole record and took pole position. He got off to a good start, pulling away from Marc Marquez in the initial laps. Marc covered the gap and took the lead, which he carried on till the last three laps of the race.
Jorge Lorenzo, Valentino's teammate who trailed him by a single point in the world championship, had a good start from eight place on the grid. He eventually climbed onto third place, with the leading duo pulling away from him. Andrea Iannone on the Factory Ducati finished on fourth place, in a heated battle involving the likes of Cal Crutchlow, Pol, Aleix Espargaro and Bradley Smith.
