New Yamaha Cygnus Ray ZR- Overview

  • May 15, 2016
  • |   Comments
Yamaha has brought the updated model of their “Ray” series auto gear scooter; they have christened it Ray-ZR. The scooter is still focused on the male targeted audience and the company has used tagline “Real Boy’s Scooter” for the new Ray-ZR. It seems a good effort to tap the market which is still not been dominated by any of the competitors present in the country. Let’s find out what’s on the offering from the new entrant. Style & Design:

Yamaha has redesigned the front fascia of the previous generation “Ray” and by doing so they have featured a stylish headlight prominently placed at the center of the body. The clear lens Blinkers are also mounted on the body to follow the razor sharp silhouette of the new Ray ZR. There are lines and creases everywhere and to follow the same design element the handlebar is also given similar treatment. Although, the handlebar is devoid of headlamp assembly but from the front it has been given nice touch of asymmetric lines to cover that up. The new Ray-ZR is also featured with aluminum body colored Grab-rail, the upswept and large grab rail adds to the overall flowing design of the scooter. Engine & Performance:

The new Cygnus Ray ZR is designed based on the same platform of previous model “Ray Z”, it has also featured with same 113cc air cooled CVT engine with Blue Core technology, although, the company claims better engine response with its YTPS and mileage of 66 Kmpl from the new Ray ZR. The SOHC mill of new Ray-ZR is fueled through carburetor and it is tuned to churn out 7.2 Ps of power at 7500 Rpm and 8.1 Nm of peak torque at 5000 Rpm. Brakes & Tyres:

Yamaha has introduced optional front disc brake in scooter for the first time in India, however, the size of the disc brake is among the smallest in the present competition (170mm). It is for sure that because of the inclusion of front disc brake the braking efficiency of the new Ray-ZR will improve considerably. On the other hand there is 130mm drum brake doing the duty at the rear wheel of the new Ray ZR and the same size of front drum brake is used in the non disc brake variant of the scooter.

The new Cygnus Ray ZR is featured with 10 inch 90/100 profile tyres at both the wheels and the size and profile remain same even for the disc brake version. However, it is normally seen that a bigger front tyre/wheel is used by the manufacturer in case of optional disc brake but in Ray ZR’s case company has opted same set of wheels instead they have reduced the size of disc used to accommodate the small wheel. The Ray-ZR is also featured with Tubeless set of tyres which has become a norm now days and also comes very handy while riding on puncture prone surfaces. Instrument Console & Other Features:

The new Yamaha Cygnus Ray ZR comes equipped with all new analog meter console, the instrument cluster is indeed very good looking and it adds to the angular lines used in the overall design of the new Ray-ZR as basic design philosophy. It is not only the meter console which is following the razor sharp design element but also Taillight and the Front Pocket present at the front dash of the scooter to carry knick knacks or a small water bottle.

The new step-up seat of the new Ray ZR is also designed ergonomically for a comfortable ride for both rider and pillion. It is claimed that the seat is designed with about 10mm more cushioning material thickness for more plush and comfortable ride. The under seat capacity of the Ray ZR remains same as the other Yamaha scooter models i.e. 21 liters making it one of the scooters that can hold a full face helmet easily with still space left for some other stuff. Color Options & Price:

The new Yamaha Ray ZR is available in four color options and out of these two (Matte Green & Fizz White) are restricted only for disc brake variants and the other two color options (Maverick Blue & Rooster Red) are limited to the drum brake variant. The Disc brake variant of Ray-ZR is available at a price tag of Rs 54,500 and the Drum Brake variant is priced at Rs 52,000 (All prices Ex-Showroom, Delhi).

Yamaha YZF-R15 V 3.0 Vs KTM Duke 125- Comparo

The trend nowadays is of small displacement high powered bikes which can deliver mileage and performance. Such bikes usually have the chassis of a performance bike but lack a big engine. How Different Is The Yamaha MT-03 From FZ-25

Oct 5, 2018
We all have heard about the MT-03 series from different places around the Internet. So far, most of us know two things about the bike. Number 1, it is a Naked motorcycle from Yamaha and Number 2, it is not available in India, with no plan to launch either. But exactly how different is the MT-03 from the FZ-25 which we get in India. Both bikes just have a 72 cc (249 for FZ-25 & 321 for MT-03) difference, are of the same type, and made by the same manufacturer. All of this must point to a huge number of similarities, right? well, no. Allow me to explain.

Honda Grazia 125 Test Ride Review

Nov 18, 2017
All new Honda Grazia has got really cool and astonishing looks. The very first look of the scooter somehow reminds us of Honda Dio from the front and the rear end. Actually the whole scooter looks like Honda Activa has worked out, took heavy diet and transformed. Beautiful fine lines and bulky yet aerodynamic front of Grazia mesmerizes the soul.
