Faired And Semi Faired 150cc Motorcycles Under Rs 1.0 lakh

  • Apr 30, 2015
  • |   Comments
Yamaha Fazer was the only semi faired 150cc motorcycle, which was available in Indian market for long time but recently Suzuki and Bajaj joined the league in the form of Gixxer SF and Pulsar AS150 (we are not including semi-faired Bajaj Discover, as it is targeted to different customers). So if you are going to buy 150cc faired/semi faired bike under a lakh rupees, you have three options Yamaha Fazer version 2.0 (though the Fazer version 1 is not discontinued, we are taking version 2 for comparison), Suzuki Gixxer SF and Pulsar 150AS, Now which one is for you? We will compare now to clear your doubts. Fazer version 2.0 is the successor of old Fazer with carburetor but version 2 is equipped with FI and its the only fuel injected engine among three, Fazer V2 has a 149cc Air cooled, 4-stroke, SOHC, 2 Valves engine which produces peak power of 13.1 BHP and peak torque of 12.8 Nm. It has 5 Speed manual transmission gearbox and a kerb weight of 132 Kg.

Fazer version 2 has full digital multi-information instrument cluster with Eco-Indicator. Coming to the brakes It has front disk brakes but lacks rear disc brake even in new version. All in all the bike looks attractive with black alloy wheels and chiseled half fairing. So what you get is a refined 150cc motor with good looks, semi-fairing which is more aerodynamic and comfortable than the previous generation Fazer and has reduced vibrations too. Though the power is reduced but it still manages to give same performance with the help of FI and light weight chassis. It even has 14% more mileage compared to previous generation motorcycle, now that's icing on cake! Now let's come to Suzuki Gixxer SF, we all know the success of it's naked sibling, we hope the same about Gixxer SF because it has the same engine of naked Gixxer with aerodynamic full fairing which adds 4 kgs more but it still manages to give same or even better performance than it's naked version. Gixxer SF has 155cc single cylinder, carbureted engine which produces 14.8 Ps of power @8000 Rpm and 14 Nm @6000 Rpm of torque (same as Gixxer), it is the second powerful engine in this comparison. The bike looks absolutely good and its dual port exhaust not only sounds throaty but looks good and sporty too. There could have been things like clip-on handlebars, fuel injection and rear disc brake, which would have made this already beautiful bike even more practical. Now come to the recently launched 150cc adventure motorcycle from Bajaj's stable Pulsar AS150, it's a semi-faired machine which is blessed with projector and perimeter frame as well. Pulsar AS150 is powered by 149.5cc, single-cylinder, 4-valve engine which produces power of 16.8bhp @9,000rpm and torque of 13nm @7500 which makes it one of the most powerful motorcycles in the 150cc segment and in this comparison it's the most powerful motorcycle. Pulsar 150AS has 240mm disc brakes up front and a drum brake at rear (rear disc brake could have been offered as optional). The bike looks good but the rest two in the comparison are bit better, Bajaj could have worked a bit more to enhance its looks and could have blessed it with a fat rear tyre. Similarities-

Three of them (Pulsar AS150, Suzuki Gixxer SF and Fazer version 2) are comfortable to ride, you can take them for long distances as the riding posture is not very aggressive, all of them have a decent 12 litres of petrol tank, 5 speed manual gearbox, air-cooled engine, telescopic front forks and rear mono suspension but the saddest part is that all of them lacks rear disc brakes.

Unique features and pricing-
Yamaha Fazer version 2- The only engine in the comparison to have a fuel injection, dual head lamps which adds to it's sportiness, so if you want quality and refined engine of Yamaha you can go for it but it's the costliest motorcycle in the comparison, it will cost you around INR 86,805 (ex-showroom Delhi).

Suzuki Gixxer SF- The only motorcycle in the comparison to have a full fairing and dual port exhaust, we would like to mention about gear indicator which is displayed in its console (Even though it's a nominal thing but still we wish the rest two could have it as well). So if you want a full fairing, sporty motorcycle to attract attention on road with decent power, Gixxer SF is the way to go, the best part is that it is priced lesser than the Fazer V2, it will cost you around INR 83,439 (ex-showroom Delhi).

Pulsar AS150- The only motorcycle in the comparison to have a projector, underbelly exhaust, 17 Ps of power with 4-valve engine, perimeter frame and clip-on handlebars. Bajaj tried to give whatever they could at that pricing. If you want a decent touring machine with good power and a lot of features Pulsar AS150 could be yours at INR 79,000 (ex-showroom Delhi). Pulsar 150AS is bang for your buck.

Why Pulsar 180F Sucks- A Critical Analysis

Feb 4, 2019
Since the design rehash formula worked wonders for a motorcycle which has already captured a big portion of the 150cc market. It should definitely work for a bike which hasn’t even begun competing on the same level as its siblings. So Bajaj decided to use the design of the Pulsar 220F and put the 180cc engine in it. The sad part isn't that they are diluting the image of Pulsar 220F, but they are also doing the right thing economically.

5 Reasons Why Royal Enfield Himalayan Is The Best Bike For Beginner ADV Rider

Sep 28, 2018
I rode the Royal Enfield Himalayan recently, the model which I rode was a Carb unit with no ABS. It was the only Himalayan available at the showroom and besides I wanted to test the bike on dirt and the ABS would have just gotten in the way. For me, fuel injection isn’t a necessity, as I don’t mind a jumpy throttle. Now, I rode the Himalayan mostly on off-road terrain and learned the following things about it.

5 Reasons Why You Should Be Excited For Hero Xpulse 200

During the reveal of Hero X-Pulse 200, a Hero MotoCorp executive pointed out that the main problem for people going to Ladakh is their ill-equipped bike. People just use normal road bikes to cross dangerous trails and there is a better way to do, he said, while revealing the XPulse 200. Let’s take a look at some of the features which make the Hero’s new adventure bike stand out from the rest.

5 Ways Royal Enfiled Himalayan can help you live a comfortable life

Aug 25, 2018
Royal Enfield Himalayan was notorious for breaking down at the speed of 40 km/h, it is the truth and nobody can deny that. It has broken down in more ways we can even think of but all this can only be said about the old Himalayan, which came with a “Carb” unit. The new Himalayan Fi is certainly not bulletproof because no bike is. It is what it exactly needs to be, a motorcycle which needs less maintenance than any other bike in its category.

BMW G310 GS Vs Kawasaki Versys X 300- Comparison Review

Jul 24, 2018
We were all waiting for a long time for the BMW G310 GS to get launched so we could finally compare it with the Kawasaki Versys X 300, for mainly 2 reasons. First, the Versys is a perfect platform that blends off-road and on-road performance and two, just like the BMW 310 GS, it suffers from limited service stations and outlets. So let’s begin:
