Comparison- Honda CB Hornet 160R Vs Suzuki Gixxer Vs Yamaha FZ-S V 2.0

  • Dec 12, 2015
  • |   Comments
With the launch of Honda CB Hornet 160R we have a competitor in the 150cc class which has come when the brands like Yamaha FZ -Fi and Suzuki Gixxer already reigning in the same segment. Honda has studied the competition very minutely and after launching the updated CB Unicorn 160 with new 160cc engine they have launched the Hornet 160R with same long stroke engine but with increased performance. Let’s check it out how the new Honda CB Hornet 160R fares against the rest of the competition.

Yamaha FZ-S Version 2.0: The Yamaha FZ-S V 2.0 is considered as a bold step for the company which is known for its performance bikes in India. Yamaha surprised everybody when they launched updated FZ-S as version 2.0 with brand new engine. The 149cc air cooled engine is now 4cc lesser than the previous models and the subsequent power and torque figures are also reduced than before. But to compensate the loss Yamaha has incorporated new “Blue Core Technology” and Fuel Injection System. Due to these countermeasures Yamaha successfully enhances the performance of the bike but they have to pay the price with the increased cost of the bike.

Compare The Detailed Technical Specification Of Yamaha FZ-S V2.0 Vs Suzuki Gixxer

The fuel injected engine brings two major benefits to the Yamaha FZ V2.0- one the performance is now more linear than before and the mileage of the bike is also improved considerably. There is split seat featured on the Yamaha FZ version 2.0 which looks good but might not prove practical for many. The Yamaha FZ-S V2.0 is equipped with full digital meter console, which the other competitors also followed. In brakes department the Yamaha FZ-S V2.0 is equipped with Bybre front disc brake but there is no provision for the rear disc brake and it is limited to only drum brakes at the rear wheel.

Suzuki Gixxer: When Suzuki launched Gixxer in India it was second only product from the manufacturer after its GS 150R with 150cc engine. The Suzuki Gixxer was a brand new product from the house of Suzuki built from scratch and not the sheer update of the existing product. The first thing which makes the Gixxer distinct especially from Yamaha FZ V2.0 is the new engine, which is more powerful and equally smooth as Yamaha’s.

Suzuki decided to bring the Gixxer as carbureted and avoided the fuel injection system to curtail the cost which they subsequently passed on to the customers. An equally stylish Gixxer with more powerful engine, almost same features and at less price point makes the Gixxer more value for money.

The Suzuki Gixxer is also featured with Bybre front disc brakes as Yamaha Fz and it also devoid of rear disc brake option. Even the size of the disc used as the front disc brake in both the Yamaha FZ and Suzuki Gixxer is identical; both come with 2-Pot brake calipers.

Honda CB Hornet 160R: Honda has taken its time and launched the CB Hornet 160R with 160cc engine which they have already introduced in their CB Unicorn 160. The long stroke 160cc engine of Honda CB Hornet 160R is tuned to produce healthy 15.9Ps of power and class leading 14.8 Nm of Torque. The fueling of the Hornet is done through carburetor and Honda has introduced counter balancers in the engine to further reduce the vibrations. With the HET, Honda is also claiming the better fuel economy.

Compare The Detailed Technical Specifications Of Honda CB Hornet 160R Vs Suzuki Gixxer

Features like full digital meter console come standard with new Hornet 160R. Honda stayed with the single seat arrangement as we have see on Suzuki Gixxer. The same profile tyres are also used as of its competitors along with tubeless feature. Honda has brought disc brakes from “Nissin” and not only they introduced bigger petal disc brakes but also featured the optional rear disc brake with CBS. Opposite to the 2-Pot brake calipers used by the competition these Nissin brakes come featured with 3-Pot brake calipers at the Honda CB Hornet 160R. Verdict & Price-
Yamaha FZ-S V2.0

The only bike in its segment which is featured with fuel Injection System, Yamaha FZ-S is equipped with almost everything that its competitors have. The lack of rear disc brake option, a little less on performance front and the most expensive bike amongst all are the major drawbacks with reference to its competition. The price starts from Rs 82,159 (Ex-showroom, Delhi).

Suzuki Gixxer

Suzuki Gixxer being launched after the Yamaha FZ V2.0 have taken the advantage and incorporated those things which were devoid off in Yamaha FZ V2.0. Feature like kick starter and more powerful engine at a lesser price tag makes the Gixxer more value for money than Yamaha FZ-S Version 2.0. The Suzuki Gixxer price starts from Rs 74,500 (Ex-Showroom, Delhi).

Honda CB Hornet 160R

The same advantage what Suzuki enjoyed when they launched Gixxer after Yamaha FZ V 2.0 is been passed on to Honda this time. Honda has seen every pros & cons of both the bikes and seems to have taken the advantage of it. They have not only continued all those features what Suzuki brought in like inclusion of Kick starter and fueling through Carburetor for cost effectiveness but also incorporated added features like bigger & efficient disc brakes with the option of rear disc brake. Most powerful engine among the competition with all other features present on the other competitors, the Honda CB Hornet 160R price starts from Rs 79,900 (Ex-Showroom, Delhi).
