New Bajaj Discover 150F Test Ride Review

  • Aug 17, 2014
  • |   Comments
Bajaj has recently launched new avatar of Discover in 150cc class. The new Discover came in two variants- Discover 150F with half fairing and Discover 150S with regular bikini fairing. Bajaj has plonked newly developed 144.8cc Dtsi engine in both the variants of Discover 150 claiming the power output of 14.5 Ps at 8500 Rpm with very impressive 72 Kmpl mileage.
Amidst the array of new launches in 150cc segment by almost all the prominent manufacturers of India, Bajaj has claimed higher bid by putting its image on the stake launching Discover in 150cc class with new styling and features. Lets check it out what new Discover 150F has to offer.

Test Ride & Review By: Farhan Kashif
Photographs By: Ahmed Faraz
Bike Tested: Bajaj Discover 150F
Total Kms Run: Only 14 Kms on the ODO
Price: Rs.59,000 (ex-showroom, Delhi)
Styling:

The new Discover 150F comes in half fairing seems to be inspired by old Karizma R, the bike has different persona all together from the existing models of Discover series. It looks more fresh and very stylish in Half fairing, Bajaj has redesigned the Fuel tank as well to give more bulky look to the bike, over all the new Discover 150F looks bigger in size having good road presence and also Bajaj has successfully added a premium feel to the bike. Instrument Cluster And Switch Gears:

The meter console of Discover 150F is a blend of Digital display and Analog dial, the big and bold Speedometer is situated at the center of the console with strip of Digital LCD display unit displaying Odometer, Trip-meter, Fuel Gauge and Clock on board. Rest of the information like blinkers indicator, Headlight indicator, Neutral light and the Battery indicator are placed around the Speedometer and Digital Display Unit smartly. Overall the complete dash board looks cool. The switch gears and the plastic used all around are good in quality if not best in class. Engine Kill Switch is still missing and the illuminating switches are also not there as cost cutting measure. The headlight is equipped with halogen lamp where as the tail light has provided with the LED lights adding premium feel to the bike. Ergonomics:

The Discover 150F has upright Handlebar with weight balancers on the extreme ends, giving more relaxed stance to the rider for relatively longer journeys. The seat of Discover 150F is longer in size and is little harder in cushioning. However split seats would have added more looks to the bike but single longer seat used in Discover 150F is proved more practical and serves the purpose well. The Foot Pegs used in Discover 150F are fold-able and placed more neutral and slightly backward providing relaxed riding stance complementing the upright Handlebar. Performance And Gearbox:

The new Discover 150F is equipped with the new 144.8cc Dtsi engine with twin spark plugs and 4-valves setup. The Engine is smoother then before but has a typical grunt of Dtsi engine. The power is adequate for 144.8cc engine. The bike is not at all performance oriented and the power terrain is more dedicated towards the mileage of the bike. Over all the bike offers a balanced package of Performance and mileage. The 144.8cc engine is mated to a 5-speed transmission, the gear box is surprisingly smooth for a Bajaj bike. Bajaj has definitely does a good job not only with the styling but also the Engine and transmission of the bike. Riding Dynamics:

The bike is well balanced and planted to the tarmac efficiently, it seems that Bajaj has done some serious job on the dynamics of the Discover 150F, be it the balancers on the tips of the Handlebar or the rectangular swingarm and the wider rear tyre every tit-bits add to the brilliant riding dynamics of the bike. Bajaj has used the "MRF Nylogrip Zapper" tyres on both the ends providing as usual good grip on the road even on wet surface. The front of the bike is featured with Telescopic Suspensions while at rear the Nitrox Monoshock does the duty well. The bike comes with front Petal Disc Brake with Bajaj's Signature Disc-Cover and the rear wheel has got only drum brake option. Both the Disc and Drum brakes of Discover 150F proved to be good in practical while Petal Disc provides adequate bite. Verdict:

The new Discover 150F is definitely an eye catcher and has strong road presence. Bajaj has done a good job with new engine which is smooth in nature and with further smoother Gear Box. Although the claimed Mileage of the bike seems to hamper the performance of the bike but overall the quality of the product is improved by Bajaj and at this price tag the bike seems to be value for money.
Pros:

  • Styling
  • Smooth Engine & Transmission
  • Great Mileage

Cons:

  • No Engine Kill Switch
  • Performance

Why Pulsar 180F Sucks- A Critical Analysis

Feb 4, 2019
Since the design rehash formula worked wonders for a motorcycle which has already captured a big portion of the 150cc market.
