Yamaha FZ-S FI V2.0 Test Ride Review

  • Aug 3, 2014
  • |   Comments
The talk of the town Yamaha FZ-S Version 2.0 is finally road tested today by BikesIndia. Yamaha recently launched the new FZ-S V2.0 and shocked all of us by introducing new 149cc engine to the bike which actually is 4 cubic capacity lesser then the previous FZ series bikes. The reduction in the cubic capacity of the bike also leads to the reduction in power figure. Since Yamaha is known for its performance DNA through out the World and India is not an exception, we have great fan following of Yamaha in our country too but Yamaha has surprised everybody in India as nobody was expecting this step by the company like Yamaha. However Yamaha at the time of launch claimed that tough there is reduction in the power figure and size of the engine but the bike has better performance then the previous models and it has become possible because of the "Blue Core Technology" and the Fuel Injection System incorporated in the new FZ-S version 2.0.

Along with other bike enthusiast we at BikesIndia was also a bit skeptical about this fact and excited on the other hand to know the reality of it. This was only possible by taking a thorough road test of the new Yamaha FZ-S FI, we were trying to test ride the bike ever since it was launched and today it became possible.

Lets check it out if Yamaha is true to its word and new FZ-S proves itself in the 150cc premium bike segment.

Test Ride & Review By: Farhan Kashif
Photographs By: Ahmed Faraz
Bike Tested: Yamaha FZ-S FI V2.0
Total Kms Run: Only 03 Kms on the ODO
Price: Rs.78,250 (ex-showroom, Delhi)
Styling:

As it is the FZ series bikes are very stylish and this time Yamaha has made the new FZ-S more stylish then ever. The edgy lines of the bike are more razor sharp and complement well with the over all curvy and stubby image of the bike. The new head light is beautiful with DRL at the lower tip of it, new air scoops are nicely designed with efficient air vents and the bulky scoops add to the over all persona of the bike. This time Yamaha has almost changed the entire rear end, they have introduced full tyre huggers but leaving the chain exposed to the elements. New stubby exhaust canister looks also good and complementing the edgy lines of the bike. Over all the new Yamaha FZ-S V2.0 is a stylish bike. Instrument Cluster and Switch Gears:

Yamaha has introduced new very stylish and practical all digital instrument console, the display is very good and legible easily even in broad day light. The information displayed on the console are very clear and can be accessed easily. As far as switch gears are concerned they are basic but made up of good quality plastics, the engine kill switch comes handy on right hand side while there is "light pass switch" easy to access on the left. Ergonomics:

The bike has a little aggressive stance with foot pegs being kept more backward, the rider has to sit a little leaned forward to reach the handle bar which is wide and comfortable. Yamaha has also deployed new split seats to the new FZ-S, the seats are comparatively thin but provides fair amount of cushioning, however we will only be able to tell you how comfortable are these for long journeys when we do the long term review of the bike. Over all the wide and straight handle with the backward placed foot pegs and split seats made the bike more in control of the rider but on the other hand making the bike more city oriented with its comparatively aggressive stance. Performance and Gear Box:

Ah! coming to the most concerned point of the review, the performance of the bike to my surprise is good and in fact better then the previous FZs. The power figures of the bike might be less on the paper as compare to the old FZs but it is not at all felt practically, in fact the power delivery of the new FZ-S has become more linear all thanks to the fuel Injection system. The bike did not take hiccups while accelerating in long gears at slow speeds and the Power felt at all rev ranges through out. The bike I was provided was as new as one can imagine, may be this is why I felt the gear shifting a bit notchy, over all the new FZ-S Fi surprised me in performance. Riding Dynamics:

The bike felt more planted to the road with the centralized mass distribution, the wide tyres carry forwarded from the previous version FZs, only difference is the tyre huggers, which personally I didn't like but I guess it comes handy for raniy season. Shock absorbers are also same from the older version, at rear adjustable monoshock and front bears beefy telescopic shockup. In Brakes department Yamaha is used front disc brakes from "Bybre" which gives good bite and adds to the confidence while braking hard even at high speed. The rear is still devoid of the disc brakes and comes only with the drum brake as standard. Verdict:

I must say Yamaha has done a good job making an iconic bike better, the new FZ-S is certainly better then the old FZs as far as linear performance of the bike is concerned and more over the bike returns great fuel efficiency, I have been told that it gives mileage of plus 55 Kmpl. which is considered great for a bike with performance orientation. Over all the new FZ-S FI maintains the tagline of "Lord Of The Streets"
Pros:

  • Handling
  • Performance
  • Mileage

Cons:

  • Thin Seat Padding
  • Exposed Chain
  • Little Expensive

Yamaha FZ-S Version 2.0 Ownership Review By Koushik Paul

Aug 19, 2015
One day when I went to a Yamaha showroom I saw an Astral Blue FZ-S V2 showcased. The sculpted tanks and the Blue Core emblem caught my attention. On inquiring the sales person I got the details like 149cc engine combined with a 5 speed gear box producing raw power of 9.7kw/8000 rpm and a maximum torque of 12.8 N-m. The rear wide tire and the front 41mm hydraulic suspension were awesome and I FELL IN LOVE WITH HER.

Monoshock Suspension Vs Dual Shocks

It is something to consider why is there a sudden increase in the use of monoshocks in the sports bikes segment. Is it really better than dual shocks? And if yes, then why did it take so long to enter the market?

Do It Yourself- Adjusting Monoshock Suspension Of Yamaha FZ-S V2.0

Feb 16, 2015
In a brand new series of "Do It Yourself" today we are discussing about adjusting rear Monoshock suspension of Yamaha FZ-S Version 2.0. The latest 150ccc fuel injected version of FZ from Yamaha has 7-step adjustable rear Mono suspension. The feature of adjustable Monoshock on one hand is very handy and on the other hand due to ignorance it is seldom utilized by the rider in real world scenario.

The trend nowadays is of small displacement high powered bikes which can deliver mileage and performance. Such bikes usually have the chassis of a performance bike but lack a big engine. How Different Is The Yamaha MT-03 From FZ-25

Oct 5, 2018
We all have heard about the MT-03 series from different places around the Internet. So far, most of us know two things about the bike. Number 1, it is a Naked motorcycle from Yamaha and Number 2, it is not available in India, with no plan to launch either. But exactly how different is the MT-03 from the FZ-25 which we get in India. Both bikes just have a 72 cc (249 for FZ-25 & 321 for MT-03) difference, are of the same type, and made by the same manufacturer. All of this must point to a huge number of similarities, right? well, no. Allow me to explain.
