New Updated 2016 Ktm RC 390- Preview

  • Dec 4, 2015
  • |   Comments
KTM had showcased the updated 2016 RC 390 at the recently concluded EICMA motor show, Milan. Apparently the new KTM model has received some serious changes, the updates given to the new RC 390 is not restricted to the sheer cosmetic changes what we normally see the other manufacturers do.

The new 2016 Ktm RC390 will be manufactured at the KTM’s Indian facility at Pune. The model showcased at the EICMA is recently spotted at the Ktm’s facility in India in its production ready attire. It is expected that the new 2016 RC 390 will be out in the market by early next year. Let’s check it out what Ktm has to offer in their updated RC 390. Style and Design:

The updated 2016 RC 390 is almost identical in styling and design, there is not even any color variation or any different graphics featured on the bike. However, the eye catching addition to the updated RC390 is its upswept exhaust. KTM has finally decided to replace the underbelly exhaust with lightweight aluminum exhaust can. The stubby exhaust canister is very neatly deigned and also given a trapezoidal tail end. Now with the new exhaust we can also expect a subdued and softer exhaust note instead of the sharp notes coming from the underbelly exhaust counterpart.

Keeping the rest of the design of 2016 RC 390 same, Ktm had to change the lower fairing to accommodate the upswept exhaust. Now the lower fairing has contoured slots to fit in the clutch assembly, which now exposed along with the exhaust pipe. Engine and Transmission:

The new 2016 KTM RC390 is equipped with same 373.2cc single cylinder, liquid cooled engine churning out hefty 44 Ps of power and 35 Nm of torque. The powerful short stroke mill of 2016 RC 390 will be mated to 6-speed transmission gear, but this time the updated 2016 RC390 is featured with advanced race inspired Slipper Clutch as we have already seen on the Duke 390.

The Slipper Clutch will aid to the handling and ride of the new RC 390; the quick shift attribute of the Slipper Clutch will make the shifting of gears much easier and will also make the transmission feel lighter than before. Electronics and Switchgear:

The KTM bikes are already technology rich and they are in fact known for the use of latest technology and quality parts. Be it the WP suspensions used at both the ends and the ABS (Anti Lock Braking System) from Bosch or the full digital meter console displaying host of information, KTM bikes are loaded with gadgets. Surpassing their own limits, KTM has decided to feature the 2016 RC 390 with state of the art “Ride By Wire” technology.

The 2016 RC 390 will be the most technologically advanced bike featured with Ride by Wire in sub 500cc segment. There will also be adjustable front brake lever and clutch lever featured on the updated RC390 complementing the ease of handling and riding of the bike especially on tracks. However, had KTM given the feature of adjustable rider’s footpegs it would have been considered as fantastic feature on board. Brakes and Price:

KTM is using the brakes from Bybre and to further improve the braking efficiency they have altered the size of front disc brake. The updated RC is now featured with bigger 320mm front disc brake replacing the 300mm disc from the previous model.

The bike will be manufactured in India and therefore all the cost benefits will be passed on to countrymen. However, due to the additional features the updated 2016 RC 390 is expected to be priced Rs 15,000 to 20,000 more than the existing model sold in India.
